SHOWCASE DIVISION
MOTOWN JAM DIVISION BUST OUT TEAM DIVISION
What is the Battle of the Swing Cities? It's the greatest dance
competition where cities or swing scenes make a team to compete in 3
divisions and competes against other teams. Beginner, intermediate, and
advance dancers can compete without pressure becuase this competition
is all about FUN!!! Everyone claps and cheers for each other and we
encourage beginners to actually compete so they get inspired to learn
and dance more...and maybe even inspire others. Basically, this is a
comp for people who want to have an enjoyable time while dancing in
front of their peers without the pressure like those major dance
competitions. Plus, the sense of camaraderie is priceless.
This year only a maximum of 5 teams will compete for
prizes and the covetted Velvet Cup which has been passed around 6 times
now! The team to beat is Team Columbus. Who will step up to take the
Velvet Cup and bragging rights this year? Is this Ann Arbor's year?
Can Detroit take it back? What about another Ohio team? Or, will there
be a NEW TEAM who will tear it up?!
RULES AND REGULATIONS
(Pretty much anything goes...but there are a few rules)
1. Each City/Team must consist of atleast 3 couples in which atleast one couple must compete in each division, AND the Team Division atleast 3
people must compete. As was the rule before, the people on your team
does not have to be from your city, but must have danced in your city or
dance scene atleast once...yup, just once. How easy is that?!
2. Each team must have atleast 3 men and 3 ladies on their team. This does not mean each couple dancing has to be 1 guy and 1 girl. You can be creative.
3. The whole team must pay a competition fee of $50 flat for
the whole team. This money is to go for prizes and other
essentials...yeah, none of it really goes to me. I'm pretty much doin'
this for free, so no b*tching.
4. All teams MUST register before November 1/2010 to be
eligible to compete...and this year I'm going to be very strict on that
rule. Don't care if I have only 3 teams competing...all teams must
register by Nov 1st.
5. Each team must have ONE LEADER who will contact me to
register, confirm, and pay me at the event. Can't have everyone and
their mothers callin' me.
6. Last but not least, if you're in this competition to just
win and not have fun, then don't even bother. Judges are looking for
fun competitor and not whiney dancers. Yes, comps are judged on
Originality, Technical Execution, and Showmanship, but also the FUN
factor.
DANCE DIVISIONS
1. SHOWCASE DIVISION 9:10PM Couple
or multiple dancers will dance to a song of their choice which must be
considered swing music (you know what I mean...and no, Disco ain't
swing). Don't make this trivial. Does not have to be choreographed,
but it would help. Aerials, tricks, dips, chains, whips are all allowed. No dance restrictions. Maximum time of song: 4 min.
2. MOTOWN JAM DIVISION 10PM It's
all about the D, baby. Here, one couple from each team will compete
"jam style" with the other competitors to.....Motown Music!!! Yup,
we're from Detroit so why not pay tribute to the great sounds of
Motown. The music may be Motown R&B, Blues, Soul, or even Funk!!!
We'll pick the songs, you dance to them. Get your most versatile dancer
for this division 'cuz the Motown Jam Division is goin' to be Detroit
Crazy!!! No dance restrictions.
3. BUST OUT TEAM DIVISION 11PM Bust
Out Team Division will feature at least 3 dancers (2 of which is the
couple that has not danced yet in the team) dancing with at least 60%
recognizable swing, dancing to their choice of a song. Swing music, pop
music, funk music...whatever music. All your team has to do is bust
out and show us whatcha got. Max time: 4 min. No dance restrictions.
Created and destroy your jam!
